Malagarasi Bridge Erection Nears Completion

THE construction of Malagarasi Bridge in Kigoma Region is set to be completed and handed over to the government in October, this year, which is two months ahead of schedule, the Project Manager, Mr Jung Sik You has confirmed. Mr You revealed the information here before the Secretary General of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Mr Abdulrahman Kinana, who was accompanied by the members of the ruling party secretariat to inspect various projects in the region.

The 275m-bridge constructed by the Hanil Engineering Company from South Korea was scheduled to be completed in December, this year. "Around 89 per cent of the project had been completed and by October, this year we will hand over the project to the government," he said, adding that the first and second lot of the project will be completed this year.

Addressing 'wananchi' at the construction site in Uvinza District, Mr Kinana said President Jakaya Kikwete is expected to inaugurate the project upon its completion. He said that the bridge is expected to ease movement of people from one place to another. Mr Kinana said that the construction of the project is facilitated by the government with the aim of bringing economic development to Kigoma and the rest of the regions. The bridge would connect the people of Kigoma with other regions in the country, including Burundi.

According to Mr Kinana, the construction of the bridge was part of the CCM 2010 election manifesto. Meanwhile, the construction of Kigoma Airport would be completed in June, this year, resident project engineer, Mr Cleopa Mpembeni has said. Mr Kinana has assured Kigoma residents of improved development . "Our aim is to ensure that you receive better services by conducting business from various parts of the country and abroad," he said. Mr Kinana together with the party secretariat members are in the region to inspect various development projects.
